Untold Poet - Music Video
Untold Poet came to me with this great idea, and it was great it had so many cool ideas that I was so hyped to get on and shoot. I had shot with Megan Rose previously so for her to be featured too made it truly special.
This was back in the first days of my music videos and lighting was expensive and I didn't have a lot of pro equipment but I love videos like this, we made it work with what we had (of what I had made).
CONCEPT.
Concept was to film somewhere completely dark so we could create easy transitions fade to blacks and switch camera angles and shots. We found an underground derelict bunk in the heart of Essex, one small visit we knew we had our location sorted.
LIGHTING.
I owned a small Rotolight which was amazing, ran off doubele AA's batteries as well allowed me to use gels to get difference colours etc. I knew I wanted two lights and whilst working on a budget I had seen another great idea on the inter web. Use a strip light in a reflective cake tin to create a good light source, I used velcro to attach a power bank to the middle of the tin to ensure power to the light was there and the remote helped gain the colours I wanted.
I remember sitting down to edit this, and I was soooo excited. It was a hot day and I blacked out my office and sat with cold water and a mind full of great ideas to get this looking dope!
I had sent a couple of shots to Untold Poet and he too was super excited. You don't have to use fancy effects and transitions which again can cost money, but with fast paced cuts, same clip overlays and some grain effects you can really go from good to great.
